5So far so goodNov 19, 2009
I bought this toy for my son this summer, about 6 months ago. It has held up so far. He's seven and I'd saw he plays with it a few times a week. He considers it one of his most favorite toys. I can tell this because he does not keep it with the other 'guys'. This one has a special place in his drawer by the bed, and if it's not there then it is next to his pillow. You get the picture...your little one will enjoy it!

5He's back!Jun 21, 2009
As a whole, action figures based on the first three films of the Terminator series have been hard to come by, with most of the offerings being little more then statues with a few moving parts. Thankfully, due to the release of Terminator Salvation, companies seem to be making up for lost time in releasing real, bonified action figures of everyone's favorite cybernetic organism, including NECA. This figure, taken from the sequence where Sarah Conner is sprung from the nuthouse, is a great start to the line, due to an outsanding sculpt that makes this figure more of a masterful work of art, rather then a plaything, and it may very well be the best Terminator action figure released to date.

The first thing that stands out upon seeing this figure is the amazing sculpt. Every milimeter here is painstackingly detailed, from the grooves in Arnold's pants, to the wrinkles on his jacket, right down the bullet holes in the back of said jacket. The detailing goes right down to the hands, which have veins sticking up from the skin, and the shotgun, which has wood grain on it. But the highlight here is the head. The sculpt itself is classic Termintor, with that focused, "I don't have time for this bull***" look, complete with angry looking eyebrows, but what makes it stand out is THE greatest head sculpt I have ever seen in an action figure. It looks 100% like Arnold, no matter how you view it, and it looks INCREDIBLY realistic, being arguably the greatest sculpt of the Austrian hunk that has ever been captured in plastic. Coupled with the amazing bodywork, this is one of those incredibly rare figures that has nearly perfect, reference quality sculpting.

One big thing that distinguishes this T 800 from previous figures is articulation. The best figures so far have come from Mcfarlane toys, but while those have outstanding sculpts, they have very little in the way of movement, being essentially miniaturized statues. This Arnold is a great step in the right direction, with movement at the neck, waist, shoulders, elbows, and wrists. It may not sound like much, but compared to the previous toys, it's a huge range of movement, and Arnold is able to get into a great deal of poses, from arms hanging at his side, to gun stretched up down, left right, towards the sky and to the ground. The head itself is rather unique in that it's a ball joint (meaning it can look not only side to side, but up and down), but it's the neck that moves around, not the head. It sounds a little weird on paper, but in person, it's fantastic. Having the neck and head joined together means that all the movement looks very realistic no matter how you pose Arnold's head.

In terms of accessories, Arnold comes only with his trademark shotgun. As stated above, it's excellently detailed, and it fits perfectly in his right hand. Some may be disapointed that Arnold only has one thing with him, but I personally don't mind, as at this time in the film, all he had was his shotgun. A pistol or two would have been nice, but it won't affect my score.

With all that's great about this figure, I'm happy to report that there really isn't anything wrong with him. Perhaps the biggest negative (and it's still small) is the poseability. Though a great step up from Mcfarlane, Arnold doesn't have a whole lot of movement compared to many other figures on the market today. While his arm posability is fine, his legs are a huge, unmovable mass that have no movement whatsoever (though on the flip side, the figure stands on it's own very well). Some may be put off by that, but I don't really mind all that much, as the pose is quite good, with Arnold holding his ground dramatically, and it doesn't really affect the overall poseability. Aside from the unmovable legs, the only real issue I could find is that Arnold's sunglasses are sculpted onto his head, and if you look at them from the top down, it looks like Arnold's flesh stretched out and merged with the glasses to hold them in place. Not a huge issue, but it is noticable, and looks odd.

Overall though, this figure is a great piece of work. With an outstanding sculpt (again, including the most realistic head scuplt I've ever seen on an action figure), and a good range of motion and posibility, this is a great figure that not only manages to be a work of art, but also be a toy that can stand up to a lot of playtime. If you're a Terminator fan, or an Arnold fan, this is an absoloute must buy and is very easily worth every penny. Highly recommended!
